We’ve all been in a situation where we have something that we need to do, but can’t quite bring ourselves to get on with it. Whether it’s cleaning the car, tackling the under-stairs cupboard or sorting out insurance renewals, there are some things that are difficult to get enthusiastic about. And that’s so often the case with teens and studying.

In this podcast episode Nathan talks to Sam Strickland, Principal at The Dunston School, and Vespa Mindset‘s Steve Oakes and Martin Griffin, co-authors of “A Level Mindset”, “GCSE Mindset” and more recently “The Student Mindset”.

We explore the foundations of good motivation and also some of the tactics and strategies that might help you to find what drives your young person. Importantly we find out the difference between activating and sustaining motivators.

Sam Strickland Sam began his teaching career as a history teacher at Wootton Upper School in Bedfordshire. In 2015 Sam was the Acting Associate Principal of Brooke Weston Academy and oversaw GCSE and A Level results which have received commendation from the DFE, Nick Gibb and the SSAT.	Steve Oakes Steve is a researcher, an education trainer and an associate lecturer in psychology. Prior to assuming his current position, he was the assistant director of sixth form at The Blue Coat School in Oldham, where he worked with his co-author, Martin Griffin, for eight years.	Martin Griffin Martin has over two decades’experience teaching students aged eleven to eighteen, and has been a head of faculty, an assistant head teacher and a deputy head teacher. He is also an award-winning writer of children’s fiction
